But today was a little better for us Batman Fans.

Rumor #1: Twitter world exploded with pictures of what is rumored to be the interior of the Batcave. So i give you  Salina Turda, a salt mine situated in Turda, Transylvania, Romania… oops i mean the batcave.

Rumor #2: Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robin? It’s a rumor that started on twitter as far as I know, and to be honest i don’t really buy it, but like i said slow day….  From what i seen so far with Bane bloqing up arkham and the escapees running free, i’m pretty sure the movie will be more based on the Knightfall story arc…. Where Bane broke the “bat”. During the time that Bruce Wayne was healing, Jean-Paul Valley took is place as Batman… then wouldnt give the job back….

Christian Bale began shooting in India today, though his trip abroad will be short since the Indian shoot is expected to wrap tomorrow.

Originally, Christopher Nolan scouted Jodhpur’s Mehrangar Fort, but photos taken today, that are rumored to be the first set pics, don’t appear to be anywhere near a fort.

Some publications are also reporting that the movie will move to Pittsburgh next, but according to the Pittsburgh Film Office, the shoot there is still so far off that they haven’t even started hiring crews or extras yet.

In addition to rumored photos and locations (our bet is they’ll be shooting in the U.K. next) there has also been an extras casting registration form circulating the net. You can find the details here, but proceed with caution as with all casting calls of this nature.

Finally, in other casting news, Warner Bros. released a statement last week which confirms what roles Marion Cotillard (‘Inception’) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (‘Inception’) will play.

Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.

Nolan stated, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”

Additional casting includes Anne Hathaway (‘Rio’) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Tom Hardy (‘Inception’) as Bane.

Warner Bros. will release “The Dark Knight Rises” on July 20, 2012.

Ra's al Ghul


In the comics, Ra’s al Ghul, the fanatical terrorist who was played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins, has used green, glowing Lazarus Pits to bring himself back from the brink of death. (If you’re healthy, though, you should stay away—the dip’ll generally kill you.)

A photo taken during today’s first official day of filming from the set in Jodhpur, India apparently shows a “pool” of green which it’s believed will be replaced by a CGI Lazarus Pit, especially since Josh Pence, who’ll be portraying the young Ra’s al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises, has been spotted on the set.

Early odds had TDKR returning to Chicago, which served as Gotham City in many scenes in The Dark Knight, with a “GPD” police SUV serving as “proof” of this as recently as last month, but everywhere from Detroit to New Orleans to Romania have been bandied about as location contenders. Now, we have official confirmation of the shooting location for TDKR and…everyone was wrong!

It was announced yesterday that Pittsburgh will serve as the new stand-in for Gotham City in TDKR, with the production shooting for “four to six weeks” in downtown Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. In a statement released to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Nolan called Pittsburgh “a beautiful city.”

We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman.

Nolan apparently met yesterday morning with representatives of Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to finalize the deal. Said Ravenstahl in a statement:

We are thrilled to be welcoming the Batman film to Pittsburgh, and eager for the economic impact that our city will experience. This is another example of the growing film industry in our community, and we will be rolling out the red carpet for them.

Jonathan Nolan, brother of the director, wrote the script for TDKR from an idea conceived by his brother and David S. Goyer. Returning in TDKR are Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Sir Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, and Gary Oldman as Commissioner James Gordon. New additions include Tom Hardy as the villain Bane and Juno Temple as a “street-smart Gotham girl.” The movie is expected to go into production in May.

The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012

French newspaper Le Fiagro wrote in their article “Marion Cotillard will join the production this summer in Los Angeles, where she will share the bill with Anne Hathaway.”

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise as we previously reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was up for a role and rumour has it that he is close to signing a deal, and since she’s an Inception alumni it couldn’t be too far fetched an idea.

So who would she play? Sources claim that she is up for the role of Talia al Ghul, daughter of Batman Begins’ Ra’s al Ghul and a love interest to Bruce Wayne.

We’ll keep you posted on further developments, The Dark Knight Rises goes in front of the cameras soon and is slated for a release next June.

We have already laughed at the rumors of him playing Robin and speculated on him playing Night Wing but it seems its a new villain and one that ties back to the first Dark Knight film;

Well he has signed on to the film in a villainous role previously undisclosed until now. Levitt will be portraying Alberto Falcone aka the Holiday Killer.

He is the estranged son of former mob boss Carmine Falcone (portrayed by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins) who returns to Gotham to take over the underworld once fiercely ruled by his father before the arrival of Batman.

What do you think of this choice? In other interesting news the film will be shooting in Bucharest this spring and once again Robin Williams name has come up. A Hungarian paper online site is reporting that the whole gang will be in Bucharest filming Dark Knight Rises and Robin Williams is listed as one of those in town to shoot. Not sure what role he will play but perhaps one of you esteemed fan boys can enlighten me in the comments. (Hugo Strange, duh)

However, that hasn’t stopped some fans from passionately defending the iconic sidekick’s place in the Caped Crusader’s mythology or offering suggestions on how he would best fit into Nolan’s version of Gotham City.

Since The Dark Knight Rises is being crafted as the concluding chapter of a trilogy, there’s been a lot of speculation over how this storyline might wrap up. The Dark Knight hammered home the notion that Bruce does not want to continue wearing the cape & cowl forever and as a result, justification for introducing Robin has reached a fever pitch.

This comes as no surprise since the two worked so well together on Inception.
So who would he play?

Well some speculate that he would be the natural successor to Heath Ledger as The Joker, however Nolan has publicly said that he wouldn’t revisit The Joker as a mark of respect for the late actor. Could what Nolan describes as his last Batman film be to usher in Robin; the boy wonder? Only time will tell.

Warner Bros and Nolan are renowned for keeping Batman news a closely guarded secret until things are confirmed.

If Gordon-Levitt joins The Dark Knight Rises he would join the recently announced Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane. Nolan is set to start shooting in May which could see Gordon-Levitt available.
